Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to establish a contractual agreement for the provision of repairs and maintenance services for automatic greasing systems on excavators and forklifts at Transnet Port Terminals, Richards Bay, over a period of 24 months. The goal is to ensure the reliable operation of critical port equipment, minimize downtime, and extend the lifespan of machinery such as Terberg haulers, forklifts, reach stackers, mobile cranes, and other port machinery.

Scope

The scope of work includes:

• Provision of comprehensive repair and maintenance services for automatic greasing systems on excavators and forklifts.
• Refilling pumps from existing central points, replacing pump elements, and servicing all grease distribution components.
• Inspection, replacement, and repair of grease pipes, nipples, and related fittings on boom, undercarriage, bucket pins, and other critical points.
• Protection of grease pipes through welding brackets and ensuring proper greasing of all pins and joints.
• Commissioning of the greasing system, pressure testing of various system components (radiator, intercooler, transmission oil cooler, thermostat, etc.), and refurbishing as needed.
• Cooling system diagnosis, flushing, and replacement of water pumps, pipes, hoses, and coolant refilling in line with OEM specifications.
• Provision of skilled personnel, including at least two artisans with 2 years post-trade experience, to perform repairs within Transnet premises only.
• Adherence to health, safety, and environmental standards, including SHE compliance documentation and site safety protocols.
• Delivery of all required documentation, reports, and compliance certificates during and after the contract period.

Technical Requirements

The technical requirements for the tender include:

• Provision of a fully equipped team with at least five trade-tested personnel per repair team.
• Complete system servicing, including pump refilling, component replacement, and system pressure testing.
• Refurbishment of cooling system components, including radiator fins, water pumps, and hoses, with proper coolant filling.
• Pressure testing of system components (header tank, radiator, intercooler, transmission cooler) to ensure integrity and leak-free operation.
• Use of steel pipes instead of plastic pipes in grease lines where damage is frequent.
• Compliance with all relevant standards, including SANS, OHS Act 85 of 1993, and Transnet SHE specifications.
• Provision of safety induction, PPE, and permits for all personnel working on site, with mandatory SHEQ induction training prior to commencement.
• Submission of method statements, safety files, and all SHE documentation prior to work execution.
• Pressure testing and refurbishment of cooling system components, including radiator, intercooler, and transmission oil cooler.
• Work to be performed within Transnet premises; no external repairs outside port facilities are permitted.
• Provision of detailed reports, condition assessments, and post-repair documentation for the duration of the contract and six months thereafter.
