Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to procure destacking and rework services at Timbadola Saw Mill for a duration of one month. The services aim to support the efficient handling, processing, and management of timber products, ensuring compliance with quality standards, safety protocols, and operational requirements.

Scope

The scope of work includes:

• Provision of labor for destacking in the drymill department.
• Provision of labor for rework departments, including general labor, dispatch, planing, finger-jointing, and related activities.
• Operational duties on two shifts per day, five days a week, with provisions for overtime, weekends, and public holidays as needed.
• Maintenance of destacking and rework lines, adherence to safety and quality standards, and reporting on production and quality metrics.
• Provision of personnel with appropriate PPE, training, and compliance with safety standards.

Technical Requirements

The technical requirements include:

• Labor provision for destacking and rework activities, with specific personnel roles such as destackers, operators, general workers, stackers, sorters, supervisors, loaders, and dispatch staff.
• Operational shifts on two shifts per day, five days per week, with flexibility for overtime and special services.
• Compliance with timber grading standards according to SANS requirements.
• Proper stacking of timber by dimensions and grades.
• Monitoring and controlling recovery losses, ensuring minimal waste, and optimizing production modules.
• Continuous quality control measures, including moisture content and size measurements.
• Maintenance of destacking lines, chains, rollers, sprockets, belts, and saw blades.
• Good housekeeping and safety practices, including hazard identification and hazard reporting.
• Provision and evaluation of PPE for all personnel, including safety boots, overalls, and safety hats.
• Adherence to safety, environmental, and operational standards specified by SAFCOL.

Skills Requirements

The skills and qualifications required for service providers include:

• Experience in managing contracts within sawmilling, forestry, or agriculture sectors.
• Capability to supply trained and inducted personnel familiar with safety protocols and operational procedures.
• Ability to manage industrial relations issues, including discipline, wage negotiations, and conflict resolution.
• Proficiency in maintaining equipment, line operations, and quality standards.
• Compliance with employment laws, including the Basic Conditions of Employment and Labour Relations Act.
• Provision of PPE and ensuring weekly evaluation of PPE conditions.
• Ability to provide flexible human resources to cover shifts, overtime, and special operational needs.
• Demonstrated capacity to monitor, report, and improve production efficiency and quality.
