Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to appoint a service provider to provide comprehensive gardening services at Magdala Depot for a period of 12 months. The services aim to maintain the aesthetic appeal, safety, and operational efficiency of the depot environment by ensuring proper landscaping, pruning, refuse removal, and related horticultural activities.

Scope

The scope of work includes:

• Within the perimeter fence: Pruning and planting of shrubs, maintenance of walkway areas, and removal of refuse for disposal.
• Outside the perimeter fence: Establishment and maintenance of firebreaks of at least five meters, clearing of veld or farmland perimeters, and upkeep of established gardens outside the fence.
• Additional tasks: Removal of garden rubbish, weed control, lawn mowing and trimming, edging, cultivation, pest and disease management, watering, irrigation system maintenance, and ensuring neatness and safety of the site.

Technical Requirements

The technical requirements specify that the contractor must:

• Perform pruning, planting, and maintenance of shrubs and lawns according to professional garden practices.
• Maintain walkway areas and clear refuse regularly, transporting waste to recognized dump sites at their own cost.
• Implement weed control using effective and environmentally safe methods, ensuring no long-term soil imbalance.
• Carry out lawn mowing, edging, dethatching, fertilizing, and pest/disease control, adhering to best horticultural standards.
• Manage planted areas, including shrub pruning and bed cleaning, to ensure neatness and aesthetic appeal.
• Maintain irrigation systems, report faults promptly, and ensure proper watering of plants.
• Comply with relevant legislation, including occupational health and safety laws, and produce proof of registration and good standing with the Compensation Commissioner.

Skills Requirements

The successful bidder must possess:

• Qualified horticultural and landscaping skills, including pruning, planting, lawn care, and pest management.
• Experience in operating and maintaining irrigation systems and garden machinery.
• Knowledge of environmental safety standards and environmentally friendly pest and weed control methods.
• Ability to perform site inspections and adhere to professional garden practices.
• Compliance with health and safety regulations, including occupational health and safety laws.
• Effective communication skills for coordination with Transnet personnel and reporting faults or issues.
