Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to engage a qualified and experienced service provider to deliver networking and telephone cabling services to Mangosuthu University of Technology (MUT) for a duration of 12 months. The provider will ensure the continuity, reliability, and maintenance of MUT's network and telephony infrastructure, including fault repairs, routine maintenance, ad hoc installations, and supply of related equipment.

Scope

The scope of work includes:

• Provision of two full-time technicians with valid Network and Telephone Cabling Certificates (minimum NQF Level 3) stationed at MUT during normal working hours (Monday to Friday, 08h00–16h00).
• Attending to and resolving network cabling faults and maintenance issues on campus.
• Troubleshooting and repairing telephone cabling faults to ensure clear voice communication.
• Managing repairs to fibre optic infrastructure, including splicing, patching, and testing.
• Providing specialised networking equipment, cabling, connectors, and components as per MUT’s needs.
• Performing ad hoc network and telephony cabling installations (e.g., new offices, lab expansions).
• Responding to after-hours emergency work requests, subject to approval.
• Maintaining service records through daily signed timesheets and job cards.
• Participating in monthly service review meetings with MUT’s IT team.
• Implementing a call logging system for tracking service requests, with updates and resolutions documented.

Technical Requirements

The technical requirements include:

• Deployment of two technicians with valid cabling certificates (NQF Level 3).
• Fault diagnosis and repair of network and telephone cabling infrastructure.
• Management of fibre optic network repairs, including splicing and testing.
• Provision of networking materials such as Cat6 patch panels, patch cords, surface mount boxes, trunking, power units, and accessories listed in the material schedule.
• Ad hoc installation of cabling for new setups and expansions.
• Emergency support outside normal hours.
• Use of a call logging and ticketing system for service request management.
• Documentation and reporting of all service activities.

Skills Requirements

The skills and qualifications required for the service providers include:

• Technicians with valid Network and Telephone Cabling Certificates (minimum NQF Level 3).
• Proven experience in structured cabling systems, including fibre optic and copper cabling.
• Ability to troubleshoot and repair network and telephony faults efficiently.
• Competence in managing cabling installations and repairs in a campus environment.
• Knowledge of call logging and service management systems.
• Strong documentation and reporting skills.
• Ability to provide after-hours emergency support and ad hoc installation services.
