Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to procure a porters service for Newcastle Hospital for a period of six (6) months, ensuring the provision of qualified staff to handle patient transport, specimen handling, and related duties in compliance with health and safety regulations.

Scope

The scope includes:

• Provision of 8 staff members (porters) working in shifts (day and night) 7 days a week, including weekends and public holidays.
• Responsibilities encompass transporting patients, handling specimens, assisting with patient admissions, and ensuring proper operation and maintenance of wheelchairs and stretchers.
• Conducting weekly site visits by a senior company representative.
• Replacing staff as needed for leaves and emergencies.
• Ensuring staff are dressed in uniforms with name tags and adhere to health and safety standards.
• Liability for any loss or damage caused by staff negligence or theft.

Technical Requirements

The technical specifications include:

• Compliance with Occupational Health and Safety Regulations.
• Registration with UIF, COIDA, and BCCCI.
• Provision of staff uniforms and identification badges.
• Staff must be physically fit, active, and capable of acting calmly under pressure.
• Staff must have good communication skills and be courteous and professional.
• Adherence to the detailed scope of duties such as patient transport, specimen handling, and documentation.
• Provision of a current good standing letter for COIDA and proof of UIF registration.
