Objectives

The primary objective of this project is to construct a sediment pond adjacent to GP3 shed at Transnet Port Terminals. The pond aims to control water flow, prevent drainage blockages, and protect nearby infrastructure from sediment-laden runoff, ensuring smooth operations and environmental compliance.

Scope

The scope of work includes:

• Design and construction of a sediment pond near coal shed stockpiles at Transnet Port Terminals.
• Preparation of a plan diagram illustrating procedures during construction, adhering to employer requirements and local regulations.
• Construction of embankments with appropriate compaction, waterproofing, and anti-seep collars.
• Installation of pipework and manholes with proper foundations and anti-seep collars.
• Site preparation, including clearing, leveling, and ensuring access and safety measures.
• Compliance with safety, environmental, and technical standards, including noise and dust regulations.
• Attending compulsory site visits and adhering to CIDB registration requirements (minimum Level 1 under GB or CE classes).

Technical Requirements

The technical specifications and requirements include:

• Construction of large embankments with proper keying and settlement considerations.
• Use of competent, quality materials, including suitable fill embankments with anti-seep collars and watertight pipework.
• Preparation of schematic layout drawings, design parameters, and compliance with SABS 1200 series standards.
• Provision of all necessary machinery, tools, and safety equipment, including earplugs, dust masks, and protective overalls.
• Site access via existing roads, with security and safety regulations strictly enforced.
• Completion within a strict timeframe, with an indicative delivery period of 7 days upon receipt of the purchase order.
• Attendance at a compulsory site meeting and submission of a plan diagram prior to construction.
• Adherence to environmental and safety standards, including noise, dust, and storm wind considerations.
• Construction to be carried out in accordance with employer’s specifications, local authority regulations, and environmental management plans.
