Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to appoint a registered medical waste management company to handle the removal, transportation, and disposal of medical waste for Saldanha Bay Municipality. The service aims to ensure safe, compliant, and environmentally responsible disposal of medical waste generated at the Occupational Health Clinic from 1 July 2026 until 30 June 2027.

Scope

The scope includes:

• Removal and transportation of medical waste from the Occupational Health Clinic.
• Incineration of the medical waste at a registered disposal facility.
• Provision of necessary containers, liners, and sharps containers as specified.
• Compliance with the National Environmental Act (59 of 2008) and relevant waste management regulations.

Technical Requirements

The contractor must:

• Be a registered Medical Waste Management Company compliant with the National Environmental Act.
• Provide transportation and collection services for specified waste items, including:
• 50-litre cardboard boxes with liners
• 7.6-litre sharps containers with lids
• 20-litre expired pharmaceutical containers (including disposal)
• Bio tape for waste packaging
• Ensure all waste is securely contained and transported to a registered incineration facility.
• Supply all necessary containers and liners as per the specifications.
• Maintain compliance with environmental and health regulations throughout the contract period.

Skills Requirements

The successful bidder must demonstrate:

• Registration as a Medical Waste Management Company with relevant authorities.
• Experience in handling, transporting, and disposing of medical waste in accordance with legal standards.
• Knowledge of environmental legislation related to waste management.
• Capability to provide the required containers, liners, and disposal services efficiently and safely.
• Ability to produce compliance and disposal certificates upon completion of waste incineration.
