Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to procure a registered medical waste management company to handle the removal, transportation, and incineration of medical waste for Saldanha Bay Municipality. The service aims to ensure safe, compliant, and environmentally responsible disposal of medical waste generated at the Occupational Health Clinic from 1 July 2026 until 30 June 2027.

Scope

The scope includes:

• Removal and transportation of medical waste, including sharps, expired pharmaceuticals, and other biomedical waste.
• Incineration of the collected medical waste at a registered facility.
• Provision of necessary containers such as 50-litre cardboard boxes, liners, sharp containers, and expired pharmaceutical containers.
• Adherence to the National Environmental Act (59 of 2008) and relevant waste management regulations.

Technical Requirements

The service provider must:

• Be a registered Medical Waste Management Company compliant with the National Environmental Act.
• Provide transportation and incineration services for medical waste from the Occupational Health Clinic.
• Supply appropriate waste containers, including liners, sharp containers, and pharmaceutical disposal units.
• Ensure waste is securely contained, transported, and disposed of at a registered landfill or incineration facility.
• Maintain proper documentation and disposal certificates for all waste processed.
• Comply with all relevant environmental and health regulations throughout the contract period.

Skills Requirements

The successful bidder must demonstrate:

• Experience in biomedical waste management and disposal services.
• Knowledge of environmental legislation related to waste management (e.g., National Environmental Act).
• Capability to supply and handle specialized waste containers and liners.
• Qualified personnel trained in biomedical waste handling and safety procedures.
• Ability to provide valid registration and certification as a medical waste management company.
• Proven track record of compliance with health and environmental standards.
