Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to carry out renovations at the NHLS Dr Pixley Ka Isaka Seme Laboratory, ensuring the facility is upgraded to meet operational, safety, and compliance standards. The project aims to improve laboratory infrastructure, safety, and functionality through comprehensive refurbishment and installation works.

Scope

The scope of work includes, but is not limited to:

• Construction and refurbishment of laboratory spaces, including partitioning, ceilings, and finishes.
• Installation of plumbing systems, including sinks, toilets, urinals, geysers, and associated fixtures.
• Electrical installations, including wiring, power outlets, lighting, and specialized equipment connections.
• Flooring and wall finishes, including tiling, painting, and surface repairs.
• Installation of glazing, doors, blinds, and suspended ceilings.
• Provision of safety and signage features at the main entrance and within the laboratory.
• Site preparation, debris removal, and ensuring minimal disruption to ongoing laboratory operations.

Technical Requirements

The technical requirements specify that all materials and workmanship must comply with relevant standards, including:

• Use of SABS and ISO approved materials.
• Adherence to SANS10142 electrical installation rules.
• Installation of safety glass for internal and external glazing, with specific thicknesses based on surface area.
• Use of approved plumbing fixtures, including stainless steel sinks, toilets, urinals, and geysers, with proper bonding and earthing.
• Application of specified surface preparation, priming, and finishing techniques for painting and coating works.
• Installation of suspended ceilings and drywall partitioning as per manufacturer’s instructions.
• Compliance with health and safety regulations, including proper signage, site safety, and risk management.

Skills Requirements

The tender requires bidders to demonstrate:

• CIDB registration with a grading designation of 1GB or higher.
• Previous experience in similar laboratory renovation projects, with references and completion certificates.
• Qualified and registered professionals, including licensed electricians, plumbers, and safety officers.
• Capability to manage and coordinate multi-disciplinary trades, ensuring quality and compliance.
• Ability to work within operational laboratory environments, minimizing disruption and adhering to safety protocols.
• Provision of project management, supervision, and skilled labor to execute the scope efficiently.
