Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to undertake renovations to the Patients Waiting Area at McCord Provincial Eye Hospital, specifically focusing on the unbooked and PECU areas. The aim is to improve the facility's infrastructure, ensure compliance with safety and building standards, and enhance patient comfort and operational efficiency.

Scope

The scope of work includes:

• Enclosing the unbooked area and PECU waiting areas.
• Constructing walls with M200 brick on top of existing structures, including plastering and painting both inside and outside surfaces.
• Installing aluminum windows and doors, including signage and ironmongery.
• Providing soft closures for doors and installing LED lighting fixtures.
• Removing existing trees and leveling concrete areas.
• Pressure cleaning and scrubbing surfaces.
• Building wheelchair ramps with water runoff provisions.
• Enclosing the PECU patient waiting area with appropriate materials.
• Additional detailed works such as waterproofing, tiling, installation of extractor fans, and electrical connections as specified.

Technical Requirements

The technical requirements specify adherence to:

• Compliance with South African Bureau of Standards (SABS) codes and the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
• Use of specified materials, including M200 bricks, SABS approved paints, aluminum windows and doors, and tiles.
• Proper installation of electrical fixtures with certification (COC certificates).
• Construction to be carried out with minimal disruption to existing hospital operations, including after-hours work if necessary.
• Guarantee period of at least 12 months for structural work and materials.
• All work to be inspected, tested, and certified as compliant with specifications.

Skills Requirements

Applicants must demonstrate:

• Proven experience in building renovations, especially in healthcare or similar institutional environments.
• Qualified personnel with appropriate certifications in construction, electrical, and plumbing works.
• Capability to undertake structural work, wall construction, plastering, painting, and installation of aluminum fixtures.
• Ability to comply with safety standards, including PPE usage and site safety protocols.
• Experience in working within operational hospital environments with minimal disruption.
• Provision of necessary guarantees and certification for electrical and plumbing installations.
