Objectives

The primary objective of this procurement is to restore the functionality and longevity of the hospital’s external drainage infrastructure. The project aims to eliminate water leakage risks, protect building structures from moisture-related deterioration, and maintain a safe, hygienic environment for patients, staff, and visitors at Harry Gwala Regional Hospital.

Scope of Work

• Conduct a thorough inspection of guttering systems located on the 7th floor (7F) and multiple additional zones across the hospital grounds.
• Supply and install replacement sections, downpipes, brackets, and sealants using industry-standard materials.
• Perform necessary welding, riveting, or fastening to secure loose or damaged components.
• Ensure proper gradient and alignment to facilitate efficient rainwater runoff.
• Complete all demolition, disposal of waste materials, and final site cleaning in accordance with municipal and institutional waste management protocols.

Technical Requirements

• All works must comply with the South African National Standards (SANS) for roofing and drainage, as well as Occupational Health and Safety Act regulations.
• Materials must be UV-stabilized, corrosion-resistant, and capable of withstanding local weather extremes.
• Contractors must implement engineered fall-arrest systems, scaffolding certifications, and daily hazard assessments for all elevated work.
• Execution must be scheduled to avoid interference with critical hospital departments, adhering to noise and dust control measures typical of healthcare facility maintenance.

Skills and Experience Requirements

• Registered contractors with proven experience in institutional or commercial guttering repairs.
• Certified artisans proficient in sheet metal fabrication, plumbing, or façade maintenance.
• Valid working-at-heights training certificates and comprehensive third-party liability insurance.
• Competency in reading site plans, calculating material quantities, and managing small-scale trade teams.
• Familiarity with hospital infrastructure maintenance and preventive service delivery frameworks is strongly preferred.

Explanation of Notable Terms

Compulsory Site Meeting: A mandatory pre-bid inspection session where all interested parties must physically visit the facility. Attendance is required to assess actual gutter conditions, identify access challenges, and clarify technical expectations. Absence typically results in disqualification.

Blue Tender Box Submission: A physical, locked receptacle designated by the institution for receiving sealed quotations. This method ensures secure, timestamped, and tamper-proof document handling. Electronic or emailed submissions are explicitly excluded.
