Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to procure services for the repair of hot water and steam leaks at Northdale Hospital. This includes replacing rusted and leaking pipes, repairing steam leaks, and replacing the hot water tank to ensure the proper functioning of hospital facilities.

Scope

The scope of work encompasses:

• Supply and replacement of rusted and leaking hot water main pipes with accessories, including insulation lagging.
• Disconnection and replacement of pipes in specific wards (B and F wards) with appropriate fittings and insulation.
• Replacement of the hot water tank on the kitchen roof, including pipe repairs and insulation.
• Repair of leaking steam pipes above the workshop roof.
• Submission of a safety file prior to commencement.
• Testing of all installations post-repair in the presence of hospital personnel.

Technical Requirements

The technical specifications include:

• Use of new, unused, and SABS-approved materials.
• Replacement pipes must match existing sizes and be hot deep galvanized.
• All accessories such as gate valves, stoppers, and steam traps (Spirex Saco) must be replaced and properly installed.
• Piping must be insulated with lagging to maintain temperature.
• Replacement hot water tank dimensions: 1230mm x 1230mm x 930mm, hot deep galvanized.
• All work must adhere to the Occupational Health and Safety Act 85 of 1993 and relevant regulations.
• Work must be completed within a one-week period, with a program of works submitted prior to commencement.

Skills Requirements

The contractor must demonstrate:

• Competence in plumbing and pipe replacement, with proven experience in similar hospital or large-scale plumbing repairs.
• Qualified and skilled workmen familiar with SABS standards and safety regulations.
• Ability to carry out repairs efficiently within the stipulated timeframe.
• Capability to prepare and submit safety documentation and conduct testing and commissioning of the installed systems.
• Provision of a minimum six-month guarantee on all repair work and installed equipment.
