Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to solicit quotations for the repair of a leaking water pipe in the Admin Block at King Edward VIII Hospital, KwaZulu-Natal. The aim is to ensure the water system is restored to proper working condition, maintaining hospital operations and safety standards.

Scope

The scope of work includes:

• Isolating the water feed to the leaking 28mm stainless steel pipe.
• Removing the leaking section of the pipe.
• Supplying and installing a new 28mm in-line isolation valve with lever from the main line in the ceiling void.
• Installing a new 28mm copper feed line from the main isolation valve to fire hose reels on the 1st and ground floors.
• Providing pipe protection barriers for passing through concrete floors.
• Using galvanized holder brackets lined with Teflon between pipe and bracket.
• Repairing ceiling damage caused by the leak and creating access ways.
• Matching existing finishes and removing rubble post-repair.

Technical Requirements

The technical specifications include:

• Complete execution of the repair work as per the detailed specifications.
• Compliance with South African Bureau of Standards (SABS) codes and Occupational Health and Safety Act 85 of 1993.
• Use of specified materials such as 28mm stainless steel pipes, copper lines, and galvanized brackets.
• Installation of new components passing through concrete floors with appropriate barriers.
• Creating access points and making good the affected areas to match existing finishes.
• Provision of safety files, risk assessments, and compliance documentation prior to commencement.

Skills Requirements

The successful bidder must demonstrate:

• Qualified artisans with plumbing expertise, including CIDB registration (minimum CIDB 1GB).
• Artisans with relevant plumbing qualifications and valid safety and health certificates.
• Experience in executing hospital or similar critical infrastructure repairs.
• Ability to prepare and submit comprehensive work plans, safety plans, and risk assessments.
• Provision of a valid health and safety file, including incident reporting procedures and PPE management.
• Capability to work within occupied hospital premises, adhering to safety and operational protocols.
