Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to facilitate the connection and installation of a 20mm HDPE pipeline from the existing 50mm main to a communal toilet in Laingville Informal Settlement, Saldanha Bay Municipality. The project aims to improve water supply infrastructure within the settlement by laying the pipeline at a specified depth and ensuring proper connection to the existing mains.

Scope

The scope of work includes:

• Connecting a water supply pipeline from the existing mains to the communal toilet facility.
• Excavation for laying approximately 100 meters of HDPE water pipes, including all accessories such as bends and couplers.
• Laying and connecting the HDPE pipes.
• Backfilling and compacting the excavated trench.
• Ensuring the pipeline is installed at a depth of approximately 600mm below natural ground level.
• Utilizing local labor where possible for excavation, backfilling, and pipe laying.

All materials will be supplied by the municipality, and the contractor is responsible for the installation process, including connection and testing.

Technical Requirements

• The pipeline must be 20mm HDPE, laid at a depth of approximately 600mm below natural ground level.
• The pipeline length is estimated at 100 meters, with all necessary accessories for connection.
• The ground conditions are assumed to be dry, light brown, medium dense, silty, clayey sand with minor gravel and plastic fill.
• The installation must comply with relevant standards and specifications provided in the tender documents.
• The pipeline must be connected securely to the existing 50mm main and the communal toilet.
• All excavation, backfilling, and compaction activities must adhere to safety and quality standards.

Skills Requirements

• Proven experience in laying HDPE pipelines and water infrastructure installation.
• Competence in excavation, trenching, and backfilling operations.
• Ability to connect pipelines securely to existing mains and fixtures.
• Knowledge of local ground conditions and appropriate construction techniques.
