Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to carry out minor renovations at the NHLS Scottburgh Laboratory. The work aims to improve and upgrade existing facilities to meet operational and safety standards, ensuring the laboratory remains fully functional and compliant with relevant regulations.

Scope

The scope of work includes, but is not limited to:

• Site inspection and understanding of the renovation requirements.
• Minor repairs such as crack repairs, mortar joint repairs, and surface preparation.
• Painting and coating of walls, ceilings, and surfaces.
• Flooring works including tiling, carpeting, and waterproofing.
• Installation and repair of glass, mirrors, blinds, and suspended ceilings.
• Partitioning using drywall systems and support frames.
• Plumbing works including sinks, toilets, geysers, and associated fixtures.
• Electrical installations, including wiring, plugs, lighting, and safety systems.
• Door hanging, hardware fitting, and finishing works.
• Additional minor works as specified in the detailed Bill of Quantities.

Technical Requirements

The technical requirements specify adherence to:

• Compliance with the National Treasury’s General Conditions of Contract (GCC) and relevant SANS standards.
• Use of approved materials, including SABS and ISO standards for tiles, glass, paints, and electrical components.
• Proper site inspection and understanding before commencement.
• Implementation of safety measures in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, 1993.
• Installation of fixtures and fittings as per manufacturer’s specifications and best practices.
• Ensuring minimal disruption to laboratory operations during works.
• Completion of works within the stipulated time frame and to the required quality standards.

Skills Requirements

The tender requires bidders to demonstrate the following skills and competencies:

• CIDB registration in at least 1GB or higher for construction works.
• Experience in minor renovation projects within laboratory or similar environments.
• Qualified and registered tradespeople including plumbers, electricians, and carpenters.
• Capability to carry out surface preparation, painting, tiling, and drywall partitioning.
• Knowledge of safety regulations and ability to implement safety protocols on site.
• Ability to coordinate with hospital management to ensure works are carried out with minimal operational disruption.
• Provision of relevant documentation such as project references, CVs of key personnel, and compliance certificates.
