Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to procure services for the preparation and application of epoxy (Polyurethane based) coating to the Durban ICC Main Kitchen and associated areas. The aim is to maintain high international standards, enhance guest experience, and ensure the facility's infrastructure is continually improved and maintained to the highest standards in line with best maintenance practices.

Scope

The scope of work includes:

• Preparation and coating of floors in specified areas such as the main kitchen passage, Sous Chef office, Executive Chef office, hygiene station, dry store, pot wash area, hot kitchen (fish, meat, vegetable prep), pastry kitchen, passage between hot kitchen and receiving area, freezers (1, 2, 3), Halaal freezer, dairy freezer, vegetable freezer, receiving area, and receiving office.
• Removing existing epoxy flooring, cleaning, and disposing of debris off-site.
• Thorough sweeping, crack filling, grinding, and ensuring floors are dry before coating.
• Applying a minimum of 4mm polyurethane epoxy screed on specified floors.
• Installing epoxy floor skirting (upstand edges) where no edges are present.
• Ensuring areas are inaccessible for 12 to 24 hours post-application.

Technical Requirements

The technical specifications include:

• Preparation of floors by removing loose coatings, cleaning, crack filling, and grinding to level surfaces.
• Ensuring floors are dry before applying primer and epoxy coating.
• Applying a minimum 4mm polyurethane epoxy screed to designated areas.
• Installation of epoxy upstand edges (floor skirting) in all relevant areas.
• Applying self-levelling epoxy on freezers (1, 2, 3).
• Adherence to safety and curing times, including no access for 12-24 hours after application.

Skills Requirements

The service provider must demonstrate:

• Competence and qualification in epoxy and polyurethane coating application.
• Experience in similar large-scale kitchen or food preparation area coatings.
• Ability to prepare surfaces properly, including removal of old coatings, crack repair, grinding, and ensuring surface readiness.
• Knowledge of safety standards and proper handling of epoxy materials.
• Provision of references from previous clients for similar services.
• Proof of third-party or public liability insurance with a minimum value of R500,000.
