Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to engage a competent and qualified service provider to remove existing wall tiles and install new wall tiles in specified areas of the Durban ICC, specifically the Main Kitchen (including hot kitchen areas such as fish, meat, and vegetables preparation areas) and the Receiving Area. The aim is to maintain high international standards and enhance guest experience by ensuring the facility's infrastructure is continually improved and maintained to the highest standards.

Scope

The scope of work includes:

• Removal of all existing wall tiles in the designated areas and safe disposal of old tiles.
• Preparation of surfaces, including cleaning, screeding, and repairing damaged walls.
• Supply of all necessary wall tiles and tiling materials such as tile fix, grout, aluminium corner pierces, tile spacers, and bonding liquids.
• Installation of new wall tiles, grouting, fitting aluminium corner pieces, and cleaning surfaces post-installation.

The specific areas covered are the Hot Kitchen (including fish, meat, and vegetable preparation areas) and the Receiving Area. The tiles to be used are 600mm x 600mm gloss white tiles (Actic Ice or similar approved).

Technical Requirements

The technical specifications for the service include:

• Removal and disposal of approximately 450 m² of existing wall tiles.
• Surface preparation involving cleaning, screeding, and repairing damaged walls.
• Supply and installation of 600mm x 600mm gloss white wall tiles.
• Installation process to include grouting, fitting aluminium corner pieces, and surface cleaning after tiling.

All work must comply with the specified standards and be completed within the scope and timeline outlined in the tender documentation.

Skills and Skills Requirements

The service provider must demonstrate:

• Proven experience in wall tiling projects of similar scope and complexity.
• Provision of at least two (2) positive reference letters from previous clients for similar services.
• Proof of third-party or public liability insurance with a minimum value of R500,000.
• Compliance with all mandatory requirements, including registration on the CSD database and EThekwini Vendor Portal, valid tax clearance, and relevant construction industry registration (CIDB) where applicable.
• Ability to adhere to health and safety regulations and provide a documented health and safety plan.
• Capability to complete the project within the specified timeframe and budget, with qualified personnel skilled in tiling installation and surface preparation.
