Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to select a laundry service provider capable of providing comprehensive laundry services for the Durban ICC's culinary department. The provider must efficiently pick up, wash, iron, and deliver utility and chef uniforms, ensuring high standards of hygiene, quality, and timely service to support the centre's operational needs.

Scope

The scope of work includes:

• Collection of laundry items from Durban ICC premises within 24 hours of service order issuance.
• Washing of uniforms and related items at the service provider’s premises using SABS approved chemicals endorsed for catering industry use.
• Ironing, placing items on individual hangers, covering with plastic, and delivering back to Durban ICC.
• Quality control inspections to prevent damages.
• Provision of a 24/7 laundry service, including multiple collections and deliveries during peak periods.
• Maintaining accurate records of uplifted and returned laundry items through control sheets.
• Supplying specified laundry items such as chef coats, trousers, aprons, neckties, skirts, thermal vests, jumpsuits, freezer coats, gloves, chef hats, and dustcoats, as per the pricing schedule.

Technical Requirements

The technical requirements for the service provider include:

• Compliance with the Bargaining Council for the Laundry, Cleaning and Dyeing Industry.
• Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in laundry services for hospitality and catering industries.
• Provision of at least one signed reference letter detailing scope of work and client contact details.
• Use of SABS approved chemicals suitable for food industry standards to prevent cross-contamination.
• Ability to perform laundry collection, washing, ironing, and delivery within a 24-hour cycle.
• Adequate equipment and staffing to support continuous 24/7 operations.
• Implementation of quality control measures to ensure item integrity and damage prevention.

Skills Requirements

The skills and competencies required from the service provider include:

• Experience in industrial laundry operations, particularly within the hospitality sector.
• Knowledge of relevant ISO standards and environmental management practices.
• Ability to manage logistics efficiently to meet tight turnaround times.
• Strong record-keeping and tracking skills for laundry items.
• Compliance with health and safety regulations, including occupational health and safety standards.
• Capability to handle specialized laundry items such as chef uniforms, gloves, and protective clothing.
• Effective quality assurance and control skills to ensure high standards of cleanliness and item condition.
