Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to procure renovation services for the NHLS Addington Chemistry Laboratory. The aim is to upgrade and refurbish the laboratory facilities to meet operational, safety, and compliance standards, ensuring a functional environment for laboratory activities.

Scope

The scope of work includes, but is not limited to:

• Renovation and refurbishment of laboratory spaces, including walls, floors, ceilings, and fixtures.
• Installation of new furniture, cabinetry, and laboratory equipment as per floor plans.
• Electrical and plumbing upgrades, including new wiring, outlets, water supply, and drainage systems.
• Installation of safety features such as fire-resistant materials, signage, and emergency equipment.
• Application of finishes, painting, tiling, and glazing as specified.
• Provision of necessary infrastructure for future expansion and compliance with standards.

Technical Requirements

The technical requirements specify that the contractor must:

• Comply with all relevant standards, regulations, and legislation, including SANS 10142 and SABS standards.
• Use only approved materials, fixtures, and equipment, such as SABS approved tiles, glass, and electrical components.
• Ensure all electrical work is carried out by registered electricians and complies with SANS10142.
• Employ qualified and experienced personnel for plumbing, electrical, and construction works.
• Adhere to specified finishes, including painting, tiling, and carpentry, as detailed in the scope.
• Coordinate work phases to minimize disruption to ongoing hospital operations.
• Provide all necessary safety measures, including scaffolding, hoarding, and signage, to ensure safe working conditions.

Skills Requirements

The tender requires bidders to demonstrate:

• CIDB registration with a grading of 2GB or higher.
• Proven experience in laboratory renovations or similar projects, with references and completion certificates.
• Qualified personnel, including licensed electricians, plumbers, and skilled tradespeople.
• Capability to manage complex projects within operational healthcare environments.
• Knowledge of health and safety regulations and ability to implement appropriate safety protocols.
• Capacity to deliver within specified timelines and budget constraints.
• Ability to coordinate with hospital management and other stakeholders effectively.
