Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to carry out renovations at the NHLS Kwamagwaza Laboratory, ensuring the facility meets required standards and operational needs. The project aims to upgrade and refurbish the laboratory infrastructure, including plumbing, electrical systems, finishes, and fixtures, to facilitate efficient laboratory operations and compliance with safety and quality standards.

Scope

The scope of work encompasses a comprehensive renovation of the Kwamagwaza Laboratory, including but not limited to:

• Site preparation, demolition, and debris removal
• Structural repairs and modifications, including drywall partitioning and support systems
• Electrical installations, wiring, and lighting upgrades
• Plumbing and drainage work, including sinks, toilets, and associated fixtures
• Interior finishes such as painting, tiling, and ceiling installations
• Installation of glass, doors, blinds, and other fixtures
• Specialized laboratory equipment installations and safety features
• Compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations throughout the project

Technical Requirements

The technical requirements specify that:

• All work must adhere to the specifications outlined in the tender documents, including standards for plumbing, electrical, and finishes.
• Materials used must be SABS approved and suitable for laboratory environments.
• Electrical work must be performed by registered electricians, with compliance to SANS10142 standards.
• Plumbing must be installed by registered plumbers, with appropriate fixtures and fittings.
• All surfaces to be prepared and finished according to manufacturer specifications, ensuring durability and safety.
• Installation of safety and emergency equipment, such as emergency showers and fire safety fixtures, as specified.
• Work must be coordinated to minimize disruption to ongoing laboratory operations.

Skills Requirements

The tender requires bidders to demonstrate:

• CIDB registration in the relevant construction category (minimum 1GB or higher)
• Proven experience in laboratory or similar high-standard refurbishment projects
• Capability to manage complex renovation projects with multiple trades and disciplines
• Qualified and registered professionals, including electricians and plumbers
• Ability to prepare and submit comprehensive project plans, schedules, and safety documentation
• Knowledge of health and safety regulations, including OHS Act compliance
• Capacity to deliver within specified timelines and budget constraints
• Provision of references and previous project completion certificates demonstrating relevant experience
