Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to procure and establish a new laboratory facility at King Nyabela Hospital in Middleburg, Mpumalanga, to enhance healthcare services through upgraded infrastructure and equipment.

Scope

The scope encompasses the design, supply, installation, and commissioning of various laboratory and associated facilities, including:

• Sorting, capturing, chemistry, haematology, vira load, Viro Lab, office, store, archive, and TB laboratory areas.
• Provision of specialized equipment such as sinks, taps, benches, cupboards, glass partitions, doors, electrical and plumbing installations, and safety features.
• Construction of partitions, ceilings, flooring, glazing, and painting as per specifications.
• Installation of furniture, signage, and branding elements.
• Compliance with safety, health, and environmental standards, including obtaining necessary certificates and permits.

Technical Requirements

The technical requirements include:

• Adherence to detailed specifications for each area, including dimensions, materials, and equipment.
• Installation of electrical systems compliant with SANS10142 standards, including power skirting, circuit breakers, and lighting.
• Plumbing installations with approved fixtures, water supply, drainage, and geysers.
• Construction of partitions using drywall systems with fire and sound ratings.
• Use of approved glazing, flooring, and wall finishes, including tiles and carpets.
• Provision of safety features such as emergency showers, fire extinguishers, and signage.
• Implementation of environmental controls including painting, coating, and insulation.
• Compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and related regulations.

Skills Requirements

The tender mandates the following skills and competencies for bidders:

• Registration with the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) at grade 2GB or higher.
• Proven experience in constructing laboratory and healthcare facilities of similar complexity and scale.
• Qualified personnel including project managers, electricians, plumbers, and safety officers with relevant certifications.
• Capability to manage multidisciplinary teams and coordinate with hospital management and authorities.
• Knowledge of applicable standards, regulations, and best practices in healthcare infrastructure projects.
• Ability to prepare and submit all required documentation, certificates, and compliance reports.
