Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to appoint qualified water specialists to conduct ground and surface water monitoring at the City of Ekurhuleni's operational and closed landfill sites. This monitoring aims to ensure compliance with environmental laws, licensing requirements, and to provide recommendations for water quality management and remedial actions where necessary.

Scope

The scope includes:

• Bi-annual ground and surface water quality monitoring at specified landfill sites (both operational and closed).
• Review of topographic survey reports and providing recommendations on remaining landfill airspace.
• Sampling and analysis of parameters such as pH, COD, Cl, NO3, K, SO4, Mg, Na, Ca, EC, F, P, TDS, among others.
• Analysis to be conducted in accredited laboratories with results reported in a specified format.
• Preparation of comprehensive reports for each site and monitoring session, submitted within 30 working days.
• Provision of expert hydrologist appointment documentation prior to work commencement.

Technical Requirements

The technical requirements include:

• Conducting water quality monitoring in accordance with DWAF standards, COE permits/licenses, and South African Bureau of Standards methods.
• Use of accredited laboratories for sample analysis.
• Provision of a qualified hydrologist with relevant degree and experience.
• Review of topographic survey reports and landfill airspace calculations.
• Preparation of detailed reports for each monitoring session and site, submitted within 30 days.
• Compliance with all environmental and licensing standards applicable to landfill water monitoring.

Skills Requirements

The successful bidder must demonstrate:

• Experience and qualifications of a Water Specialist with a Bachelor's Degree or NQF level 7 in environmental science, chemical engineering, or civil engineering.
• At least 2 years of relevant experience in water monitoring or hydro-logical studies.
• Capability to operate and interpret water sampling and analysis equipment.
• Ability to review topographic survey reports and provide technical recommendations.
• Proven track record with previous water monitoring projects, supported by reference letters.
• Access to accredited laboratories for sample analysis.
• Financial capacity to undertake the project, evidenced by bank statements or funding confirmation.
