Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to procure professional re-upholstery services for existing chairs and couches at ERWAT Head Office. The aim is to restore furniture functionality, comfort, and aesthetic appeal through foam replacement, frame repairs, re-upholstery using approved fabrics, and finishing, without purchasing new furniture.

Additionally, the procurement seeks to ensure fair, transparent, and competitive sourcing aligned with ERWAT’s SCM policies and legislative frameworks, while obtaining value for money and supporting local economic development, especially involving SMMEs and disadvantaged groups.

Scope

The scope includes:

• Re-upholstery of various furniture types including executive, visitor, and office chairs, as well as couches and sofas.
• Structural repairs such as welding and fixing frames.
• Foam replacements for seats and backs.
• Repairs to wooden or steel frames and armrests.
• Fabric supply (upholstery fabric, leatherette, genuine leather).
• Provision of consumables (buttons, piping, thread, etc.), high-density foam, and other materials.
• Labour for upholsterers, assistants, and carpenters.
• Transport, logistics, and protective wrapping for furniture movement.

Technical Requirements

The technical specifications include:

• Use of commercial-grade upholstery fabric, leatherette, or genuine leather.
• Foam densities of 22 and 30 for seat and back replacements.
• Structural repairs adhering to safety and quality standards.
• Foam and fabric replacements must meet specified quality and durability standards.
• Furniture repairs should restore original functionality and appearance.
• Compliance with ERWAT’s safety, health, and environmental policies.
• Adherence to the scope of work and fixed pricing for all services.

Skills Requirements

The successful bidder must demonstrate:

• Proven experience in furniture re-upholstery, structural repairs, and related services.
• Provision of a portfolio of evidence including completion certificates, reference letters, or certificates for at least 3-4 relevant projects.
• Ownership or valid lease/rental agreements for at least one vehicle (minimum 1-ton truck) in the company’s or director’s name.
• Qualified and skilled upholsterers, carpenters, and assistants with relevant expertise.
• Ability to meet quality standards, deadlines, and safety requirements.
• Capacity to provide all materials, consumables, and logistical support as specified.
• Compliance with health and safety regulations and ERWAT’s occupational health and safety policies.
