Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to solicit quotations for the cutting and removal of twelve (12) trees in Richards Bay, ensuring the work is completed by 17 August 2026. The project aims to safely and efficiently remove specified trees, dispose of debris responsibly, and comply with all relevant health, safety, and environmental standards.

Scope

The scope includes:

• Identification and removal of 12 designated trees across various specified locations in Richards Bay.
• Use of chainsaws and herbicide application for stump treatment.
• Disposal of logs, limbs, chips, and debris at a legal disposal site.
• Work to be performed in accordance with the City of uMhlathuze's standard operating procedures and safety standards.
• Coordination with municipal authorities for blocking streets and ensuring public safety during operations.
• Site cleanup and restoration to pre-work conditions, including filling holes and re-seeding disturbed areas.

Technical Requirements

The technical requirements specify that:

• Tree cutting and pruning must be performed using chainsaws, following safety and operational standards.
• All debris must be collected and disposed of properly, with no debris left on streets or in parks overnight.
• Final cuts should be made close to ground level, with branches pre-cut to prevent property damage.
• Use of mechanical devices, ropes, or supports to lower large limbs safely.
• Protection of utilities and structures during operations, with immediate reporting of any damages.
• Application of approved herbicide to stumps post-removal.
• All work must comply with health and safety standards, including PPE and equipment standards.

Skills Requirements

The skills required for contractors include:

• Chainsaw operation with at least 2 years of experience.
• Chainsaw competency certification.
• Knowledge of tree felling, pruning, and debris disposal procedures.
• Adherence to health and safety regulations, including the use of PPE such as helmets, safety boots, glasses, and earmuffs.
• Possession of public indemnity insurance.
• Ability to coordinate with municipal authorities and utility companies.
