Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to procure services for cutting trees and applying herbicide control within specified streets in the City of uMhlathuze. The work aims to manage and control vegetation growth through tree removal and herbicide application, ensuring safety, compliance with health and safety standards, and proper disposal of debris.

Scope

The scope includes:

• Performing a once-off tree cutting operation in designated streets: President Swart, King Greenbelt (from King to Kildare), and Sturn Valley.
• Removing dry alien trees adjacent to properties during alien plant control.
• Using chainsaws and other equipment in accordance with health and safety standards.
• Blocking public streets with prior arrangements during work.
• Providing barricades, warning signs, and safety devices to protect motorists and pedestrians.
• Disposing of logs, limbs, chips, and debris generated from the work at designated dumping sites.
• Ensuring site cleanup and restoring the site to its original condition post-operation.
• Protecting utilities and adjacent vegetation from damage during operations.

Technical Requirements

The technical requirements include:

• Use of chainsaws and ropes for tree felling and limb removal.
• Final cuts close to ground level, with pre-cutting of heavy branches to prevent property damage.
• Use of mechanical devices to lower large limbs safely.
• Proper disposal of debris, logs, and limbs at specified sites.
• Protection of public infrastructure, utilities, and surrounding vegetation.
• Compliance with health and safety standards, including the use of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) such as helmets, safety boots, glasses, and earmuffs.
• Adherence to traffic safety standards during street blocking and work zones.
• Provision of barricades, warning signs, and flag persons during operations.
• Proper handling and disposal of debris to prevent obstructions or hazards.

Skills Requirements

The skills required for contractors include:

• Chainsaw operation training and a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience.
• Competency certificates for chainsaw use.
• Public indemnity insurance coverage.
• Knowledge of health and safety standards related to tree cutting and herbicide application.
• Ability to work in compliance with traffic management and safety procedures.
• Experience in debris disposal and site cleanup.
• Ability to protect utilities and surrounding vegetation during operations.
