Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to procure services for tree pruning and removal in Empangeni, ensuring the maintenance and safety of public spaces by removing dry alien trees and performing necessary pruning activities in accordance with safety standards and municipal requirements.

Scope

The scope of work includes:

• Tree cutting and pruning using chainsaws at specified locations in Empangeni, including the Empangeni Civic Centre and Magistrate Court.
• Removal of dry alien trees adjacent to properties during alien plant control operations.
• Designated trees to be felled as per the list mapped and attached.
• Disposal of logs, limbs, chips, and debris generated from the work at designated dumping sites.
• Implementation of tree cutting/felling procedures to prevent property damage and ensure safety.
• Site cleanup and debris removal after each workday, restoring the site to its original condition.
• Protection of utilities, property, and public safety during operations, including traffic management and safety signage.

Technical Requirements

The technical requirements specify that:

• All tree cutting and pruning must be performed with chainsaws and in compliance with health and safety standards.
• Work must be carried out with proper equipment, barricades, flag persons, signs, and warning devices conforming to traffic safety standards.
• Final cuts should be close to ground level, with branches pre-cut to prevent damage, and limbs lowered using mechanical devices or ropes.
• All debris must be removed from the site daily and disposed of appropriately.
• Protection of surrounding vegetation, structures, and utilities is mandatory, with immediate reporting of any utility damage.
• Work must adhere to relevant legislation such as the National Forests Act 1998 and health and safety standards.

Skills Requirements

The bidder must demonstrate:

• Chainsaw competency with valid certificates.
• At least 2 years of relevant experience in tree cutting and pruning activities.
• Proper training in chainsaw operation and safety procedures.
• Possession of public indemnity insurance.
