Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to carry out road maintenance work specifically focused on repairing potholes at Sentrarand Depot's wagon business. The work aims to ensure the integrity and safety of the road surfaces by properly repairing potholes to prevent further deterioration and hazards.

Scope

The scope of work includes:

• Removing loose asphalt, debris, and dirt from potholes.
• Marking and cutting around the pothole to create a clean edge.
• Assessing and preparing the base layers for repair.
• Filling potholes with hot-mix asphalt in layers, ensuring proper compaction.
• Finishing the surface to ensure it is even and properly cured before reopening the road.
• Repairing small potholes with cold-mix asphalt material.
• Implementing safety measures such as road safety cones, protective wear, and barrier tape.

Technical Requirements

The technical requirements specify that:

• The repair must strictly adhere to the detailed technical specification for pothole repair.
• Preparation involves cleaning, marking, cutting, and assessing the base layers.
• Filling must be done with hot-mix asphalt, layered appropriately, and compacted thoroughly.
• Surface finishing should ensure an even and level repair.
• Repairs should be cured properly before reopening the road, with markings applied if necessary.
• For small potholes, cold-mix asphalt can be used.
• All work must meet quality standards and be performed within the guarantee period.

Skills Requirements

The contractor must possess:

• Ability to identify and classify the cause of potholes before repair.
• Experience in using appropriate tools and equipment, noting that Transnet will not provide tools.
• Knowledge of proper asphalt repair techniques, including cutting, filling, and compaction.
• Compliance with safety standards, including the use of PPE, safety cones, and barrier tape.
• Understanding of safety and security procedures as per Transnet's policies.
• Capability to deliver quality work that withstands the guarantee period, with responsibility for rework if necessary.
