Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to engage qualified suppliers for the transportation and storage of corpses at Empilisweni Hospital and Umlamli Hospital in Joe Gqabi District for a period of 12 months. The service aims to ensure proper handling, storage, and transportation of deceased individuals in accordance with relevant health and safety standards, including facilitating pauper burials when necessary.

Scope

The scope of the tender includes:

• Transportation of corpses from referral hospitals to storage facilities and back.
• Storage of corpses for up to three days, including weekends and holidays, with capacity to accommodate up to ten deceased at a time.
• Provision of body bags/shrouds during collection and transit.
• Responding within 30 minutes to calls for corpse collection.
• Compliance with all relevant legislation, including the Health Act and municipal regulations.
• Organizing pauper burials when required.
• Providing vehicles modified for corpse transportation, with appropriate signage.

Technical Requirements

The technical requirements specify:

• Funeral undertaker premises must have a valid certificate of competence issued by the relevant local authority (Senqu Municipality).
• Premises must be within the Senqu Local Municipality.
• Vehicles used must be appropriately modified for corpse transport and bear the name of the funeral undertaker.
• Provision of body bags/shrouds on collection.
• Response time to collection calls within 30 minutes.
• Compliance with health, safety, fire, and occupational health and safety regulations.
• Provision of proof of relevant certificates, vehicle photos, and proof of address.

Skills Requirements

The bidder must demonstrate:

• Experience in corpse transportation and storage services, supported by reference letters and current contracts.
• Qualified personnel with relevant expertise in handling deceased individuals and operating specialized vehicles.
• Ability to respond promptly and efficiently to emergency calls.
• Knowledge of relevant legislation, health and safety standards, and municipal regulations.
• Organizational capacity to manage multiple corpses simultaneously and organize pauper burials when needed.
