Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to procure a service provider to handle the collection, transportation, and disposal of all healthcare general waste generated at Livingstone Tertiary Hospital and Port Elizabeth Provincial Hospital. The service aims to ensure safe, compliant, and efficient waste management over a period of twelve months, supporting the hospital's health and safety standards and environmental responsibilities.

Scope

The scope of work includes:

• Provision of refuse storage containers:
  • Livingstone Tertiary Hospital: 1 x 31m³ bin and 3 x 6m³ bins
  • Port Elizabeth Provincial Hospital: no bins required
• Scheduled collection, transportation, and disposal of healthcare general waste during specified days:
  • Livingstone Tertiary Hospital: Monday, Wednesday & Friday
  • Port Elizabeth Provincial Hospital: Tuesday
• Reporting to Waste and Grounds Services Foreman on site.
• Ensuring waste does not contain traces of medical waste before disposal.
• Cleaning spills around refuse bins during collection.
• Sign-off of waste collection checklists by all parties involved.
• Transportation mode must be enclosed or covered to prevent spillage.
• Provision of proof of registration with NMNN for transportation and disposal of waste.
• Submission of occupational health and safety documentation prior to service commencement.
• Providing disposal proof via NMBM Waste Disposal Slip post-disposal.
• Personnel must wear protective gear during handling and transportation.

Technical Requirements

The technical requirements include:

• Use of appropriate refuse containers as specified.
• Adherence to scheduled collection days, with contingency for public holidays.
• Reporting and coordination with hospital staff.
• Verification that waste does not contain medical waste traces.
• Spill cleanup within a 10m radius during collection.
• Proper enclosure or covering of transport vehicles.
• Proof of NMNN registration for waste transportation and disposal.
• Submission of occupational health and safety documentation, including company registration, COIDA registration, first aid certificates, and risk assessments.
• Post-service sign-off and submission of disposal proof.

Skills Requirements

The skills and qualifications required from the service provider include:

• Registered and compliant waste transportation personnel, with proof of NMNN registration.
• Personnel trained in occupational health and safety, including first aid certification.
• Ability to verify and segregate waste to prevent contamination with medical waste.
• Experience in waste management services, particularly in healthcare settings.
• Capacity to provide necessary documentation and reports as specified.
