Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to procure services for the annual maintenance and servicing of fire equipment, including fire extinguishers, hose reels, and fire hydrants, across multiple clinics and hospital facilities within the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Health. The aim is to ensure all firefighting equipment is in proper working condition, compliant with safety standards, and ready for emergency use.

Scope

The scope of work encompasses:

• Servicing of various types of fire extinguishers (powder, CO2, etc.) at multiple locations including clinics and hospital wards.
• Servicing of fire hose reels and fire hydrants at designated sites.
• Provision of all necessary materials and labor to carry out electrical and fire safety-related work.
• Preparation of service reports, safety files, and installation of service stickers with details and next service dates.
• Ensuring minimal disruption to hospital and clinic operations during servicing activities.

Technical Requirements

The technical specifications include:

• Servicing of dry chemical powder fire extinguishers (various sizes), CO2 extinguishers, fire hose reels, and fire hydrants.
• Pressure testing and marking of fire extinguishers.
• Mounting identification numbers and affixing service stickers with details including next service date.
• Providing a detailed service report and firefighting register after each service.
• Compliance with relevant standards such as SABS or SANS approval, CIDB grading (minimum 1 SF), and safety regulations.
• Adherence to health and safety specifications, including safe storage of materials and protection of patients and staff.
• Provision of a safety file containing all relevant safety equipment and test certificates.

Skills Requirements

The tenderer must demonstrate:

• Qualified technicians with appropriate certifications and CIDB grading (minimum 1 SF or above).
• Experience in servicing and maintaining firefighting equipment in healthcare or similar environments.
• Knowledge of relevant safety standards, regulations, and approval processes (SABS, SANS).
• Ability to produce detailed reports, safety files, and service stickers.
• Capacity to handle multiple sites efficiently, ensuring minimal disruption and compliance with health and safety protocols.
• Proficiency in completing all required documentation, including SBD forms, declaration of interest, and preference claim forms.
