Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to appoint a qualified contractor to refurbish the boardwalk at the Lowveld National Botanical Garden in Nelspruit, ensuring the structure is restored to a safe, functional, and aesthetically pleasing condition in accordance with SANBI standards and specifications.

Scope

The scope of work includes, but is not limited to:

• Removal of damaged sections (columns, beams, balustrades, decking) of the existing boardwalk, including viewing points.
• Supply and installation of new H4 gumpoles (max 1.6 m c/c, max height 6 m).
• Supply and installation of Eva-last decking or similar approved material.
• Supply and installation of timber beams, balusters, and handrails as specified.
• Painting of the entire boardwalk.
• Carrying out all works according to SANBI standards, drawings, and specifications.
• Refurbishment at the designated site within the Lowveld NBG, Nelspruit.

Technical Requirements

The technical requirements include:

• Adherence to SANBI and SANS standards for construction and safety.
• Use of approved materials such as Eva-last decking and H4 timber.
• Implementation of structural repairs and replacements as per provided drawings and scope.
• Compliance with environmental and occupational health and safety specifications.
• Preparation of detailed project methodology and weekly work program with milestones.
• Provision of proof of previous relevant experience and project references.
• Submission of a comprehensive health and safety plan prior to commencement.
• Proper management of site, waste, and environmental impacts during construction.

Skills and Skills Requirements

The tenderer must demonstrate the following skills and qualifications:

• Registration with the CIDB in a contractor grading designation of 6CE or higher, or capable of registration prior to evaluation.
• Proven experience in similar structural refurbishment projects within the last ten years, supported by reference letters and certificates.
• Qualified personnel including:
• Contracts Manager and Site Agent with relevant experience (minimum 5 years), professional registration (SACPCMP Pr. CPM or Pr. CM).
• Construction Health & Safety Officer with over 5 years’ experience and valid SACPCMP registration.
• Competent supervision and management of site activities, safety, and environmental compliance.
• Ability to prepare and implement project methodology, work programs, and safety plans.
• Capability to manage procurement, logistics, and site safety in accordance with SANBI standards.
