Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to appoint a service provider to operate kiosks at the Pretoria Zoo's National Zoological Garden for a period of two years. The operator will aim to maximize visitor satisfaction by providing high-quality food and beverages in a hygienic environment, enhancing the visitor experience, and promoting environmental sustainability and family-friendly services.

Scope

The scope includes:

• Operating designated kiosks within the Pretoria Zoo, including the Mountain and Gorilla kiosks, and ad-hoc mobile kiosks.
• Providing a range of food and beverage items appealing to locals and tourists, with moderate pricing and quality standards.
• Managing kiosk facilities, including equipment, furniture, signage, and stock levels.
• Ensuring compliance with health, safety, hygiene, environmental, and security regulations.
• Implementing marketing and promotional activities to attract visitors and increase sales.
• Maintaining cleanliness, waste management, and safety protocols.
• Engaging in regular performance reviews and reporting.

Technical Requirements

The technical specifications for the kiosks and operations include:

• Design and layout of kiosks, including sketches, photographs, and samples.
• Operating hours aligned with the garden's schedule (generally 08:30 - 16:30 daily).
• Provision of appropriate equipment, furniture, crockery, cutlery, and glassware, maintained at the operator’s expense.
• Implementation of a waste management plan, including recycling and disposal procedures.
• Development of a risk management plan addressing hazards and safety concerns.
• Adherence to SANBI’s signage, advertising, and branding policies.
• Maintenance and cleaning schedules, including deep cleaning and pest control.
• Security arrangements, including alarm systems and staff training on emergency procedures.
• Obtaining and maintaining all necessary licenses and permits for food handling and trading.

Skills Requirements

The successful bidder must demonstrate:

• Experience in operating food and beverage kiosks, with at least 1-5 years relevant experience supported by reference letters.
• Capability to develop and implement marketing strategies to attract visitors.
• Proficiency in managing health, safety, hygiene, and environmental standards.
• Financial capacity evidenced by bank ratings and audited financial statements.
• Ability to provide quality customer service with well-trained staff, including management and operational personnel.
• Knowledge of environmental policies, waste management, and risk mitigation.
• Competence in staff training, uniform provision, and maintaining professional conduct.
• Technical skills in kiosk design, equipment maintenance, and compliance with SANBI specifications.
