The primary objective is to appoint a qualified service provider to eradicate alien invasive plant species within the KwaZulu Natal National Botanical Garden. This intervention aims to protect indigenous biodiversity, restore ecosystem functionality, mitigate fire and water resource risks, and preserve the garden’s conservation and aesthetic integrity.
The contractor will clear approximately 19.9 hectares across four designated zones. Core activities include the physical cutting or felling of woody invasive plants (predominantly stems under 30 cm diameter), followed by targeted herbicide application to cut stumps and prescribed plant parts to prevent regrowth. The scope encompasses site preparation, safe handling and disposal of vegetative waste, progress monitoring, and comprehensive reporting. The contract duration is three months, with payments structured around certified milestones upon SANBI approval.
Coppicing: The biological phenomenon where certain plants rapidly regenerate new shoots from cut stumps or roots. Post-cutting herbicide application is mandatory to suppress this regrowth.
EPWP (Expanded Public Works Programme): A South African government initiative that requires public sector contractors to create temporary employment opportunities, pay statutory minimum wages, and provide basic skills training to promote economic inclusion.
COIDA Registration: Statutory enrollment under the Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases Act, providing employers with legal coverage and workers with compensation benefits for workplace-related injuries or illnesses.
80/20 Preference Point System: A procurement evaluation model where 80 points are awarded based on price competitiveness and 20 points are allocated for socio-economic transformation goals, specifically targeting 100% black ownership and 100% female ownership. Points are calculated proportionally based on verified ownership percentages.
All reports, maps, photographic records, and biodiversity data generated during the contract remain the exclusive intellectual property of the procuring institution. Strict confidentiality regarding site-specific ecological information and operational methodologies is legally binding.

Most large tenders are composed of tasks in a number of different fields, and it is not always possible for a single company to cater for all of them, and therefore Joint Ventures and Consortia are formed to then submit a tender together.
Government tenders are also requiring the subcontracting of a percentage of the tender work, and the trouble is then finding Subcontractors to comply with the tender requirements
To assist companies with finding tender partners and subcontractors, you can now submit your contact details and company information on this page, so other interested parties can contact you for purposes of forming Joint Ventures and subcontracting
