Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to appoint a service provider responsible for upgrading the farmyard ablution facilities at the South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) located at the National Zoological Garden in Pretoria. The upgrade aims to improve the functionality, safety, and compliance of the ablution facilities to meet relevant standards and regulations.

Scope

The scope of work includes:

• Installation of toilet and urinal flushing systems at the farmyard ablutions.
• Removal of existing toilet and urinal flushing systems.
• Supply and installation of new toilet flush valves and associated piping.
• Deep cleaning of both female and male ablution facilities.
• All related repair, construction, testing, commissioning, and guarantee activities necessary for the complete upgrade of the ablution facilities.

The work site is located at the National Zoological Garden in Pretoria, with access arrangements to be made with SANBI personnel.

Technical Requirements

The technical requirements include:

• Compliance with the latest editions of relevant standards, including SANS 10400 and other municipal regulations.
• Installation of approved, high-quality, new equipment and materials, conforming to manufacturer specifications and codes of practice.
• Execution of all work in a first-class, workman-like manner by qualified tradesmen.
• Testing and inspection of installed systems, including calibration and certification, with arrangements for at least 72 hours of operational testing.
• Provision of guarantees from manufacturers for a minimum of 12 months on installed flushing systems.
• Adherence to health and safety regulations, including preparation of a comprehensive Health and Safety Plan, risk assessments, and coordination with the Client’s Safety Adviser.
• Completion of all works within specified timeframes, with extensions granted only under justified circumstances such as critical path delays or abnormal climatic conditions.

Skills and Qualifications Requirements

The tenderer must demonstrate:

• CIDB contractor grading designation of 1 GB level or higher, or capability to register accordingly.
• Proven experience in plumbing, sanitation, and civil works related to ablution facilities upgrades.
• Qualified tradesmen with relevant certifications and expertise in installation, testing, and commissioning of plumbing and flushing systems.
• Ability to prepare and implement comprehensive Health and Safety Plans in compliance with Occupational Health and Safety Act regulations.
• Knowledge of municipal and national standards, regulations, and environmental considerations relevant to the project.
• Capacity to coordinate with SANBI personnel and adhere to project timelines and quality standards.
