Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to procure a service provider capable of performing comprehensive maintenance and servicing of sewer pumps at Murchison Hospital. The goal is to ensure the proper functioning, reliability, and longevity of the sewer pump systems, thereby preventing blockages and operational failures that could impact hospital sanitation and operations.

Scope

The scope of work includes:

• Mechanical inspection of sewer pumps, including checking for corrosion, cracks, leakage, impeller wear, shaft alignment, bearing condition, seals, mounting bolts, and guide rails.
• Electrical inspection such as motor winding insulation resistance, voltage and current balance, cable condition, control panel components, overload protection, and earthing.
• Operational checks including automatic start/stop functions, float switches, level sensors, pump rotation, discharge pressure, flow rate, vibration, noise levels, and alarm systems.
• Preventive maintenance activities like cleaning, debris removal, lubrication, seal replacement, electrical connection tightening, calibration, and testing.
• Provision of critical spare parts including mechanical seals, bearings, impellers, float switches, motor cables, gaskets, and control relays.
• Work to be carried out with minimal disruption to hospital operations, adhering to safety and health regulations.

Technical Requirements

The service must comply with:

• KwaZulu-Natal Department of Works Standard Specification
• ISO 9006 – Rotodynamic pumps hydraulic performance tests
• IEC 60034 – Rotating electrical machines
• SANS/IEC electrical installation standards
• Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations
• Local municipal wastewater regulations
• Manufacturer’s operation and maintenance manuals

Additional technical requirements include:

• Mechanical and electrical inspections as detailed above
• Operational testing post-maintenance
• Preparation of a comprehensive safety and health plan, approved by the hospital’s safety officer
• Provision of detailed reports and documentation for all inspections and maintenance activities

Skills Requirements

The service provider must possess:

• Qualified mechanical and electrical technicians with relevant certifications
• CIDB grading of at least ME and EB, with proof of previous similar work
• Occupational health and safety competency, including a valid safety officer certification
• Experience in servicing and maintaining sewage pumping systems in healthcare or similar environments
• Knowledge of relevant standards, regulations, and best practices in pump maintenance and safety
• Ability to prepare detailed inspection, maintenance, and safety reports
• Capacity to coordinate work with hospital operations to minimize disruptions
