Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to procure the supply of Single Vision spectacles in accordance with the attached specifications. The aim is to ensure the provision of quality optical devices that meet the required standards and specifications for use at Wentworth Hospital.

Scope

The scope encompasses the supply of Single Vision spectacles, including lenses, frames, accessories, and optional items, as specified in the attached HTS specifications. The procurement covers various prescription ranges, frame types, and accessories suitable for different user needs, including children and adults, with provisions for future upgrades and accessories. The supply is a once-off contract with a delivery period of within two weeks from receipt of official order.

Technical Requirements

• Supply of complete spectacles with organic plastic lenses (CR39) with full or gradient tint as specified.
• Frames must be metal or plastic, SABS approved, and suitable for various face shapes, sizes, and age groups, including children from 3 months old.
• Frames should have flexi-temples, spring back, and be available in multiple colours, with pupillary distance range of 40–80mm.
• All spectacles must be packaged in soft cases of three sizes, labeled accordingly.
• Provision of Aphakic ready-made spectacles fitted on plastic frames only.
• Delivery within two weeks, with systems for verification, returns of defective orders, and out-of-stock replacements.
• Suppliers must have at least five years’ experience, hold a valid Medical Device License, employ registered optometrists/dispensing opticians, and be based in Durban for same-day service.
• All products must conform to SABS/SANS standards, and proof of approval must be provided.
• Optional accessories and future upgrade options must be listed and priced.

Skills Requirements

• Proven experience as a supplier of optical devices for at least five years.
• Valid Medical Device License issued by SAHPRA.
• Current registration of employed optometrists or dispensing opticians with HPCSA.
• Ability to deliver spectacles promptly and provide a ‘same day service’ in Durban.
• Capability to package, label, and supply spectacles in accordance with specifications.
• Competence in technical compliance, including adherence to SABS standards and specifications.
• Experience in handling defective, out-of-stock, and replacement orders efficiently.
• Ability to provide technical advice and documentation, including sample submission and technical specifications.
