• Low vision devices such as telescopes, magnifiers, and other assistive devices

The contract duration is for a once-off delivery period of seven months, with not all spectacles required at once but delivered as per order. The procurement covers various specifications, including different lens types, coatings, frames, and accessories, to cater for diverse patient needs.

Technical Requirements

The technical specifications include:

• Complete sets of spectacles with specified lens types (organic plastic, polycarbonate, high refractive index)
• Various lens tints: fixed, gradient, photochromic, with anti-reflection coatings
• Frames made of metal and plastic, approved by SABS, suitable for all face shapes and sizes, including children
• Accessories such as replacement nose-pads, screws, tint additions, and frame replacements
• Low vision devices with specified magnification options
• Guarantee of no additional equipment required for operation, with starter packs included
• Future upgrade provisions at no additional cost

All products must meet the detailed specifications provided in the technical documentation, including compliance with relevant standards and quality requirements.

Skills and Skills Requirements

The tender requires bidders to demonstrate:

• Proof of registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as an optometrist
• Registration of the optical laboratory with HPCSA
• Experience in supplying optical devices and spectacles, with evidence of previous supply to healthcare facilities
• Capability to deliver the specified quantities within the stipulated timeframe
• Provision of technical support, maintenance, and after-sales services
• Qualified personnel with expertise in optical products and low vision devices

Additionally, bidders must provide documentation proving their technical capacity, including registered optometrists and optical labs, and demonstrate compliance with all technical and quality standards specified in the tender documents.
