Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to procure five units of spirometers that meet the specified technical and quality standards for use at Ngwelezane Hospital. The procurement aims to enhance lung function testing capabilities within the hospital's clinical services, ensuring accurate, reliable, and compliant equipment that supports patient diagnosis and management.

Scope

The scope encompasses the supply, delivery, installation, calibration, testing, and commissioning of five spirometer units as specified in the technical specifications. It includes providing comprehensive training to hospital staff and technical support throughout the warranty period. The tender also covers the provision of spare parts, manuals, optional accessories, and ongoing maintenance support to ensure optimal operation of the equipment over its lifecycle.

Technical Requirements

The spirometers must conform to the following technical specifications:

• Full lung function system capable of measuring slow and forced spirometry, FRC (Nitrogen Wash Out), RV, TLC, single breath diffusion, MIP, MEP, body plethysmography, and airway resistance.
• Quick analysis of single breath diffusion capacity (< 1 min window).
• Mounted on a mobile, compact trolley with integrated isolating transformer.
• Demand valve for direct breathing from pre-mix gas container with adjustable support arm and exchangeable pneumotach.
• Ability to perform FRC Nitrogen Wash Out tests without CO2 absorber.
• Sensors with at least 5 hours of stable operation without recalibration.
• Integrated automatic BTPS correction; external devices are not acceptable.
• Includes calibration syringe (3L), regulators, and software for accurate gas calibration.
• Flow measurement via bi-directional differential pressure pneumotacho with specified range, accuracy, and resolution.
• Compliance with IEC 60601-1 and 60601-1-2 standards, CE certification, and hospital-grade mains plug.
• Protection against electromagnetic interference and adherence to occupational health and safety standards.

Skills Requirements

The successful bidder must demonstrate the following skills and capabilities:

• Proven experience in supplying and servicing medical lung function equipment, specifically spirometers.
• Qualified technical personnel with manufacturer-certified training in the maintenance, calibration, and repair of the supplied equipment.
• Ability to provide comprehensive training to hospital staff and technical support personnel, including calibration, troubleshooting, and repairs down to PCB level.
• Availability of a well-established service and repair facility within KwaZulu-Natal, with documented support infrastructure and trained technicians.
• Provision of detailed manuals, software, and spare parts supply for at least 10 years post-installation.
• Capacity to demonstrate the equipment's functionality and performance during acceptance testing and to provide ongoing technical support and updates.
