Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to supply materials and carry out repairs on the MDR sewer manholes, sewer piping, and a manhole at the hospital reservoir in Catherine Booth Hospital. The work aims to address issues such as blocked sewer manholes caused by broken pipes and damaged storm water manholes, ensuring proper sewer and stormwater management at the facility.

Scope

The scope includes:

• Supply of materials required for sewer and stormwater repairs.
• Replacement of broken sewer pipes (from 110mm to 160mm PVC pipes).
• Construction and repair of sewer manholes, including building new manholes with concrete rings and installing heavy-duty covers.
• Relocation and rebuilding of storm water manholes at the hospital reservoir.
• Breaking and repairing paved concrete slabs and walkways as needed for pipe laying and manhole installation.
• Ensuring all work complies with relevant standards and safety regulations.

Technical Requirements

The technical requirements specify:

• Use of high-quality, new, and current models of equipment and materials, compliant with SABS standards.
• Construction of new manholes with concrete rings (1000mm x 1000mm) and heavy-duty covers.
• Replacement of sewer pipes with 160mm PVC pipes, including fittings and connections.
• Relocation of storm water manholes to prevent damage from heavy vehicles.
• Adherence to standards such as SANS 0142, SANS 10400, and SANS 10252-1-82 for electrical, building, and plumbing regulations.
• Provision of comprehensive operation and maintenance manuals.
• Guarantee periods of 12 months for installed equipment and 6 months for repairs.
• Proper environmental protection and corrosion-resistant galvanising and painting.
• Compliance with occupational health and safety regulations, including certified artisans and technicians.

Skills and Qualification Requirements

The contractor must demonstrate:

• Proof of CIDB certification with appropriate grading for sewer and civil works.
• Qualified and certified artisans and technicians with relevant experience in sewer and stormwater systems.
• Registration with the Department of Labour, including SAQCC certification for relevant work.
• Proof of qualifications and experience of personnel involved in the project.
• Adherence to occupational health and safety standards, including having a competent safety officer on site.
• Use of qualified personnel for testing, servicing, and maintenance of installed systems.
• Local labour employment for unskilled tasks, coordinated with the hospital’s community engagement.
