Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to procure the supply and delivery of trial frames suitable for use in optometric assessments at Murchison Hospital, KwaZulu-Natal. The aim is to ensure the hospital is equipped with high-quality, adjustable trial frames for both adult and paediatric use, supporting accurate eye examinations and optometric procedures.

Scope

The scope of the tender includes:

• Provision of trial frames for adults and children, including paediatric models.
• Supply of related accessories such as cross cylinders, magnification loupes, LED vision charts, and optional accessories.
• Delivery, installation, testing, calibration, and demonstration of the equipment at the specified hospital site.
• Provision of training for hospital staff and in-house technicians on equipment operation, maintenance, and repair.
• Post-delivery support including warranty, servicing, and optional maintenance agreements.

Technical Requirements

The technical specifications for the trial frames and associated equipment include:

• Trial frames must be fully adjustable, of adequate quality, and suitable for adult and paediatric use.
• Lens sets should be of premium quality with at least 250 lenses, housed in sturdy wood cases.
• Cross cylinders must be large aperture, metal rimmed, scratch resistant, available in specified diopters.
• Magnification loupes must be medical quality, adjustable, with built-in LED illumination, and available in specified magnifications.
• LED vision charts should be remote-controlled, adjustable for different distances, and include various optometric testing modes.
• Equipment must comply with relevant safety standards, be CE certified, and operate off 220V, 50Hz mains supply with hospital-grade plugs.
• All manuals, calibration software, and spare parts must be supplied for maintenance and support.

Skills Requirements

The successful bidder must demonstrate:

• Experience in supplying and servicing optometric equipment, particularly trial frames and related devices.
• Ability to provide comprehensive training to hospital staff and technical personnel, including calibration and repair to PCB level.
• Availability of a well-established service and repair facility within KwaZulu-Natal.
• Provision of technical support, spare parts, and maintenance services for at least 10 years post-delivery.
• Compliance with safety, quality, and certification standards, including CE certification and adherence to relevant health and safety legislation.
