Tender Summary: Supply & Installation of Guillotine Door

Objectives

The primary objective is to procure, deliver, and install a replacement casted guillotine door for Boiler No. 12 at the KwaZulu Central Provincial Laundry facility. The project aims to restore safe, efficient, and compliant operation of the coal-fired boiler system while minimizing operational disruption to the facility.

Scope of Work

• Empty the boiler coal hooper if currently full.
• Dismantle and remove the existing guillotine door and its mountings.
• Clean the door sliding path to ensure smooth operation.
• Supply and install a new casted guillotine door measuring 1564mm in length.
• Fit two Crosby cramps, two door slongs, the door housing, and adjust the door level.
• Replace the guillotine door position indicator.
• Conduct comprehensive testing, commissioning, and handover of the fully functional installation.
• Provide a twelve-month warranty covering defective parts and workmanship, including biannual routine inspections.

Technical Requirements

• All works must comply with KwaZulu-Natal Province standard specifications for refrigeration and ventilation services.
• Strict adherence to national legislation, including the Occupational Health and Safety Act, SANS electrical wiring codes, low-voltage switchgear standards, and local fire and municipal by-laws.
• An Electrical Certificate of Compliance is mandatory for all electrical components and installations.
• All materials must be new, unused, and preferably SABS-marked. Electrical equipment must comply with National Energy Regulations for voltage.
• Contractors must hold a minimum CIDB grading of 1ME (Mechanical Engineering).
• Completion must occur within two days of site handover. Pricing must be fixed, inclusive of all delivery, installation, testing, and incidental services, excluding VAT.

• Bidders must submit proof of active CIDB registration at 1ME or higher.
• The designated Boiler Technician must demonstrate proven, verifiable competence working specifically with coal-fired boilers. Evidence must be provided via award letters, completion certificates, detailed CVs, or formal employer reference letters.
• The contractor must deploy skilled artisans supervised by a competent project representative authorized to coordinate works and liaise with facility management.
• Work planning must prioritize continuous facility operation, requiring advance notification before any site activities begin.
