Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to supply materials and replace the existing fat trap system at the main kitchen of Catherine Booth Hospital. The project aims to ensure proper functioning of the fat trap system, improve sanitation, and prevent blockages or damage to the sewer system.

Scope

The scope of work includes:

• Breaking down the existing fat trap system and rebuilding the trap wall to the required size.
• Installing a filter unit inside the kitchen drain channel to prevent food particles from entering the fat trap.
• Repairing the existing channels inside the kitchen with a smooth finish and waterproofing paint.
• Replacing the current 100 Lt fat trap with a 300 Lt stainless steel fat trap system.
• Replacing the rodding eye with a larger size and connecting it to the sewer line.
• Constructing a protective double brick wall around the fat trap system to prevent damage.
• Installing an exterior drain inside the brick wall to direct water into the stormwater system.
• Providing training to staff on cleaning and maintenance of the fat trap system.

Technical Requirements

The technical specifications include:

• Use of brand new, high-quality, and suitable equipment for the application.
• Replacement of the existing 100 Lt fat trap with a 300 Lt stainless steel trap.
• Installation of a filter unit within the drain channel.
• Repair and waterproofing of existing channels.
• Construction of a protective brick wall around the fat trap.
• Installation of an exterior drain to manage water runoff.
• All materials must comply with relevant standards such as SANS 0142, SANS 10400, and SANS 10252-1&2.
• Guarantee period of 12 months for installed equipment and 6 months for repairs.

Skills Requirements

The tender requires:

• Qualified artisans and technicians with relevant certifications and experience.
• Proof of registration with the Department of Labour, SAQCC certification, and CIDB rating.
• Personnel must have training or experience in working with plumbing, electrical systems, and sanitation equipment.
• Contractors must adhere to occupational health and safety regulations, including having a competent safety officer on site and maintaining a safety file.
• Use of only qualified and certified personnel for installation, repair, and maintenance tasks.
• Provision of operation and maintenance manuals, and compliance with environmental and safety standards.
