Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to procure supplies of wooden crutches suitable for adult medium and large sizes, ensuring they meet specified standards for safety, quality, and functionality. The aim is to acquire high-standard, compliant products that adhere to national specifications and regulations, supporting healthcare needs at RK Khan Hospital.

Scope

The scope encompasses the supply and delivery of wooden crutches for adult medium and large sizes, conforming to detailed technical specifications. It includes providing the required quantity, ensuring compliance with quality standards, and delivering within the specified contract period. The tender also covers technical and administrative requirements such as documentation, certification, and adherence to procurement policies.

Technical Requirements

The technical specifications for the wooden crutches include:

• Adjustable bow manufactured with laminated saligna, with a rectangular adjustment piece.
• Grey, non-marking, non-slippery ferrules with an inside diameter of 23mm, bottom diameter of 40mm, and wall thickness of 5mm.
• Underarm piece measuring 160mm in length and 23mm in thickness, made from grey polypropylene, attached by machining and stapling.
• Non-marking underarm pads made from injection-moulded soft rubber.
• Handgrip made from grey polypropylene, 105mm in length with a 6mm hole.
• Handpiece adjustment with four holes on each side, 6mm in diameter, starting 325mm from the top of the underarm piece.
• Threaded screws of 130mm length and 6mm diameter, made of mild steel, electroplated, held with wing nuts and washers.
• Rectangular adjustment piece with machined end, 470mm in length, with 11 adjustment holes of 6mm diameter, starting 70mm from the side, with specific spacing and attachment details.
• Product must be free from burrs, sharp edges, oil, grease, and foreign matter, coated with clear varnish.
• Minimum wood thickness: 15-20mm; width: 20-25mm; length: 1025-1250mm.
• Items must be SANS CE Rated and of high workmanship standards.

Skills and Skills Requirements

The successful bidder must demonstrate:

• Technical expertise in manufacturing or sourcing medical-grade wooden crutches that meet detailed specifications.
• Capability to produce or supply products adhering to national standards (SANS CE Rated) and quality benchmarks.
• Experience in manufacturing or supplying medical assistive devices, with proven quality control processes.
• Ability to provide necessary documentation, including BBBEE certificates and SANAS-accredited certificates.
• Competence in ensuring compliance with health and safety standards, including proper packaging, labeling, and coating.
• Capacity to deliver within the specified contract period and handle technical queries related to product specifications.
