Objectives

The primary objective is to secure a reliable supplier for essential surgical airway management equipment to support continuous patient care at Newcastle Regional Hospital. The procurement aims to ensure the timely delivery of high-quality, compliant medical devices while adhering to provincial preferential procurement policies and public sector transparency standards.

Scope

This is a once-off supply contract covering a range of airway management devices across multiple standardized sizes. The procurement requires the delivery of twenty units per item type directly to Ward 4 of the hospital. Pricing must remain firm for a ninety-day validity period, and all deliveries must occur within the timeframe stipulated upon contract award. Late submissions will be strictly rejected.

Technical Requirements

• All items must comply with SABS and SANS quality standards and be sterile, single-use, and latex-free where applicable.
• Laryngeal Mask Airways must be manufactured from medical-grade silicone or polyvinyl chloride (PVC).
• Oropharyngeal Airways require rigid, non-toxic high-density polyethylene (HDPE) with smooth, rounded edges and integral colour-coded bite blocks.
• Nasopharyngeal Airways must be fabricated from soft, flexible medical-grade PVC, rubber, or silicone to minimise nasal tissue trauma.
• Gum Elastic Bougies must feature a specialised angled tip design for difficult paediatric airways, available in neonatal (6 Fr) and paediatric (10 Fr) sizes.
• Products must be brand new, unused, current models with a minimum remaining shelf life of six months upon delivery.
• Suppliers must hold a valid regulatory licence authorising the wholesale or distribution of medical devices.
• Central Supplier Database (CSD) registration and verified tax compliance are mandatory prerequisites.
• A Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment (B-BBEE) status certificate or sworn affidavit is required for compliance verification.
• Post-evaluation, the top three scoring bidders will be formally requested to submit physical product samples for objective clinical and technical verification.
