Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to procure tree felling services within Umdoni Municipality, ensuring the safe and efficient removal of specified trees in designated locations, with minimal risk to infrastructure, property, and public safety.

Scope

The scope includes:

• Cutting and removing a total of 6 trees across various locations including Park Rynie South, Pennington, Umzinto, Santhan, Umzinto Valle Road, and Scottburgh South.
• Tree trunks must be cut down to a height of 200mm or less from ground level.
• Application of herbicide (5% chopper solution) to stumps within 5 minutes of cutting, with reapplication if growth occurs within four months.
• Removal and disposal of felled trees at Humberdale landfill or an approved alternative within 24 hours.
• Work must be performed in proximity to roads, infrastructure, and residential areas, requiring high-risk safety measures.

Technical Requirements

The technical specifications for the tree felling include:

• Cutting trees to specified height and ensuring safe sectioning during removal.
• Applying herbicide to stumps immediately after cutting using the "cut stump" method.
• Ensuring no damage to surrounding infrastructure, utilities, or property during felling.
• Removing all felled trees and debris within 14 days of order issuance.
• Implementing safety measures such as cordoning danger zones and traffic control during operations.
• Maintaining public liability and all-risk insurance coverage of at least one million Rand for the contract duration, with proof required prior to commencement.

Skills and Experience Requirements

Applicants must demonstrate:

• Experience in professional tree felling, especially in high-risk environments near roads and infrastructure.
• Provision of a portfolio of previous relevant projects with contactable references.
• Capability to handle safety, environmental, and logistical challenges associated with urban tree removal.
• Possession of appropriate public liability and all-risk insurance coverage.
• Ability to complete the work within the specified timeframe and adhere to safety and environmental standards.
