Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to appoint a service provider for the provision of on-site health care risk waste handlers at Gamalakhe Community Health Centre (CHC). The service aims to ensure proper management, handling, transportation, and disposal of health care waste in compliance with safety and environmental standards.

Scope

The scope includes:

• Provision of four (4) trained onsite medical waste handlers working in shifts (day, night, weekends, and public holidays).
• Responsibilities encompass waste preparation, labeling, transportation, emergency spill response, and maintaining hygiene and safety standards.
• Ensuring staff wear embroidered uniforms, PPE, safety boots, and name badges.
• Conducting quarterly refresher training and periodic medical surveillance for staff.
• Maintaining safety and infection control practices, including decontamination and cleaning of waste areas.
• Adhering to working hours, reporting non-compliance, and ensuring continuous waste management services.

Technical Requirements

The technical specifications include:

• Registration with the South African Waste Information System (SAWIS).
• Minimum of 5 years relevant experience in health care risk waste management.
• Provision of proof of registration with CIPC, UIF, WCC, and liability insurance.
• Compliance with Occupational Health and Safety Act, including submission of a safety file with necessary documentation (COIDA, SHE policy, risk assessments, etc.).
• Experience in handling waste in health facilities, with at least three years of relevant contracts within the past five years.
• Team leader must demonstrate leadership, communication skills, and ability to work under pressure, with relevant qualifications (matric certificate and leadership qualities).

The bidder’s team must possess:

• Knowledge of health care risk waste management procedures and safety protocols.
• Ability to operate in a professional, courteous, and compliant manner.
• Effective communication skills in English (reading, writing, speaking).
• Physical fitness and ability to respond swiftly in emergencies.
• Leadership skills for the team leader to coordinate daily activities and ensure compliance.
• Training in infection control, waste handling, and safety procedures.
