Objectives

The primary objective is to appoint a qualified service provider to deliver targeted professional development training for approximately 200 Senior Phase (Grades 7–9) Natural Sciences advisors. The programme aims to strengthen subject mastery, improve pedagogical approaches, and equip advisors with effective problem-solving strategies aligned with the national curriculum.

Scope

• Duration & Schedule: Three consecutive days, three hours per day (10:00–13:00). Exact dates are to be confirmed by the client.
• Content Focus: Acids, Bases and pH Value; Visible Light; and Forces.
• Delivery Mode: Fully virtual training sessions.
• Key Deliverables: Development and submission of an electronic training manual; creation and administration of pre- and post-training assessments; facilitation of all virtual sessions; and submission of a final completion report alongside the invoice.
• Client Provision: The Department of Basic Education will supply the virtual training platform (anticipated to be Veedo) and provide internet data for all participants.

Technical Requirements

• Proven capability to conduct engaging, interactive virtual professional development programmes.
• Ability to design comprehensive digital training manuals aligned with specified curriculum topics.
• Competence in developing and administering standardised pre- and post-assessment tools.
• Familiarity with mainstream virtual conferencing and e-learning environments.
• Submission of a formal quotation on company letterhead, detailing costs, VAT, and personnel.
• Compliance with standard public procurement documentation, including completed SBD1, SBD4, and SBD6.1 forms, along with valid tax clearance and Central Supplier Database (CSD) registration.

Skills Requirements

• Subject Expertise: Advanced knowledge of the South African Senior Phase Natural Sciences curriculum, specifically covering chemical properties, optical physics, and mechanical forces.
• Instructional Design & Facilitation: Demonstrated experience in adult education, curriculum development, and virtual classroom management.
• Assessment Development: Skill in creating reliable diagnostic and evaluative instruments to measure knowledge retention and application.
• Personnel: Engagement requires exactly one qualified Natural Sciences trainer.

Notes on Procurement Terms

80/20 Preference Point System: A standard South African procurement scoring framework where 80 points are allocated for competitive pricing and 20 points for socio-economic transformation goals (ownership percentages of Black people, women, youth, and persons with disabilities).

CSD Verification: The Central Supplier Database is the national official registry for suppliers. The department will cross-reference bidder-submitted ownership claims against this database to validate preference point eligibility.

SBD Documentation: Standardised government bid forms used to verify tax compliance, disclose conflicts of interest, and formally claim transformation preference points.
