Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to appoint a qualified service provider to translate the Vision 2040 Indaba Outcomes Report from English into three key South African languages: isiXhosa, Southern Sesotho, and tshiVhenda. The translation aims to ensure linguistic accuracy, cultural sensitivity, and conceptual clarity, thereby broadening participation and ownership among diverse linguistic communities and supporting SANParks’ commitment to inclusive and accessible conservation communication.

Scope

The scope of work includes:

• Translating a 29-page (including cover pages) English report into isiXhosa, Southern Sesotho, and tshiVhenda.
• Ensuring the translated content maintains the tone, style, and meaning of the original document.
• Preserving technical and policy terminology related to conservation, governance, and transformation.
• Providing draft translations for review, incorporating feedback, and delivering final approved versions.
• Submitting translation certificates to verify authenticity and accuracy upon completion.

Technical Requirements

The technical requirements for the tender include:

• Provision of at least three contactable reference letters from clients for similar translation projects undertaken since 2019, demonstrating experience in professional language translation services.
• Submission of a minimum of two samples of translated documents from the past six years, aligned with the same language and type of work, with clear client identification.
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in language translation, with relevant qualifications such as NQF level 7 in African Languages, English, Communications, Media Studies, Copyright, or related fields.
• Capacity to deliver the translation within the specified timelines, with draft due by 27 February 2026 and final versions by 20 March 2026.
• Provision of translation certificates confirming the authenticity and accuracy of the final work.

Skills Requirements

The successful bidder must demonstrate:

• Expertise in translating conservation, governance, and transformation terminology accurately and consistently.
• Strong cultural sensitivity and ability to adapt content appropriately for diverse linguistic communities.
• Proficiency in managing multilingual translation projects, ensuring quality control and adherence to deadlines.
• Qualified personnel with at least five years’ experience in professional language translation, holding relevant certifications or qualifications.
• Capability to provide reliable references and samples that showcase previous successful translation projects in similar contexts.
