Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to appoint a qualified service provider to conduct comprehensive Workplace Ergonomics and Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Risk Assessments for the Border Management Authority (BMA). The assessment aims to identify, analyze, evaluate, and prioritize ergonomic hazards and risks within the workplace, ensuring compliance with the Ergonomics Regulations, 2019 under the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHS Act 85 of 1993). The goal is to improve workplace safety, health standards, and organizational image by implementing ergonomic risk controls and ensuring a safe working environment for all employees.

Scope

The scope of work includes:

• Conducting a comprehensive Workplace Ergonomics and OHS Risk Assessment covering all tasks undertaken by employees at BMA Head Office and other relevant sites.
• Producing key deliverables such as an Inception Report, a detailed Ergonomics and OHS Risk Assessment Report, and a comprehensive Risk File for the site.
• Delivering assessments within specified timeframes, ensuring timely implementation of ergonomic risk controls.
• Managing the project in collaboration with BMA officials and maintaining confidentiality of all shared information.
• Reporting directly to the BMA through the Office of the Executive Manager: Facilities Management.

Technical Requirements

The technical requirements for the service provider include:

• Expertise in ergonomics and occupational health and safety risk assessments, with proven industry experience.
• Provision of an Inception Report and a comprehensive Ergonomics and OHS Risk Assessment Report, including a Risk File for the site.
• Adherence to the Ergonomics Regulations, 2019, and compliance with relevant occupational health and safety legislation.
• Experience in conducting ergonomic hazard identification, analysis, evaluation, and prioritization.
• Qualified project manager with at least 3 years of experience in ergonomics risk assessments, holding a relevant NQF Level 7 or higher qualification (e.g., Ergonomics, OHS, Human Factors, Industrial Engineering).
• Registration with recognized professional bodies such as the Ergonomics Society of South Africa (ESSA).
• Ability to compile a comprehensive Risk File and deliver reports within the stipulated timeframes.

Skills Requirements

The successful bidder must demonstrate:

• Extensive experience in ergonomics and occupational health and safety risk assessments.
• Capability to produce detailed and compliant assessment reports and risk management plans.
• Proven project management skills, including coordination with internal stakeholders and adherence to deadlines.
• Strong confidentiality and data management skills, ensuring all information remains property of the BMA.
• Effective communication skills to present findings and recommendations clearly and professionally.
• Experience in working within government or public sector environments is advantageous.
