Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to appoint a qualified service provider to deliver comprehensive gardening, landscaping, and grounds maintenance services at the SABS East London office. The goal is to ensure the premises are maintained in a clean, safe, and aesthetically pleasing condition throughout the 36-month contract period, considering the high rainfall and rapid vegetation growth typical of East London.

Scope

The scope of work includes:

• Provision of all labour, supervision, equipment, tools, and consumables necessary for gardening and grounds maintenance.
• Routine grounds maintenance services such as pruning, cleaning, and waste removal.
• Vegetation management, including trimming and removal of overgrowth and hazardous vegetation.
• Waste handling and disposal, including proof of disposal where applicable.
• Site preparation prior to mowing and regular maintenance of landscaped zones, perimeter fencing, and high-risk vegetation areas.
• Adherence to environmental and safety standards, including responsible pest control and occupational health and safety compliance.
• Provision of ad-hoc services such as tree work, quoted separately.

Technical Requirements

The technical requirements include:

• Use of appropriate pruning equipment, high-pressure cleaners, and environmentally responsible methods.
• Prompt removal of slippery growth, storm debris, and high vegetation, especially after storms or high winds.
• Maintenance of specific zones including perimeter fencing, landscaped areas, and high-risk vegetation zones.
• Compliance with occupational health and safety regulations as per South African legislation.
• Personnel must wear designated safety gear and adhere to security clearance standards.
• Regular reporting on services performed, including routine and ad-hoc tasks.

Skills Requirements

The skills and qualifications required for the service provider include:

• Demonstrated experience in gardening, landscaping, or grounds maintenance, supported by reference letters from recent contracts (within the last five years).
• A dedicated supervisor or contract manager with relevant experience in gardening services, supported by a CV and proof of qualification.
• Proven ability to operate gardening equipment and implement environmentally responsible practices.
• Knowledge of occupational health and safety standards and ability to ensure compliance.
• Effective communication skills for reporting and coordination with SABS personnel.
